Details of forthcoming BMAF Road Race Championships

Note that the events are spread across England and Wales for 2018.  For 2019 we are determined to seek out a venue in Scotland.  Your help would be much appreciated, if you know of a good race that will meet our member’s needs.

The BMAF positive working relationship continues to grow with England Athletics promoting not only a Marathon Championship but a 10 km Championship for Masters.  It proves that England Athletics cares and wants to support Masters Road Running.  Our Road Race Secretary aims to make contact with Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland and seek out their support.  It would be a great sight to witness strong teams of Masters from all four Home Countries competing.

In addition to this aim a few words from England Athletics on the 10K Events which are unfortunately sold out but the Marathon is still open :

‘England Athletics recently added 10 km to the Age Group Masters Opportunities. Nearly 300 runners registered their interest for the three qualifying races and those runners who are successful in earning themselves a place on the England Age Group Team will be announced following each of the qualifying races. The successful runners will come together at the Great Birmingham 10k in May.

This initiative is part of a wider programme which includes the marathon which was successfully piloted at Chester last year and England Athletics are looking to add other race distances to the range of opportunities for Masters in due course.

However, there are still qualifying opportunities for Chester 2018, see details below.’

For those of you who prefer the longer distances – Brighton and Manchester marathons in the Spring provide further opportunities for qualification for the England team that will compete in Chester in 2018.

Now Back to our Championships.

The BMAF 10 mile championships has exceed all expectations and open entries are closed.  However, as a sign of respect the LOC will allow BMAF members enter up until the 9 Feb 2018.  After that date entries will be closed so please act now.

Further updates on how to enter any of the BMAF Championships will go live on the BMAF website as soon as they are available.  This will apply to our multi terrain championships very soon.   The only gap in the calendar at present is the BMAF 1-mile championships  – we are looking for a different location/date this year.
